Child's Play Challenge - Dominos

This weeks challenge at Child's Play Challenges is dominos.  I love to play dominos, and it brings back lots of memories of playing with my dad and grandpa when I was little.  I actually have a picture of my kids playing dominos on our porch that I need to scrap, but I decided to go with a picture of Chris and Brookie from when she was littler.

I used a black back ground because of the black on dominos.  I thought about using all black and white, but I am just too big of a color fan :)  Instead I added polka-dots, because of the dots on dominos.

Be sure to go check out all of the great layouts and play along on Child's Play Challenges.

I was able to get 2 more layouts done this week.  They are actually on the same piece of paper.  I really wanted to use the first piece on the V-Day layout, but I didn't want the back side to go to waste.  It isn't what I would have normally chosen as the background for the Snow Ice cream layout, but I think it works.

 This layout is from Sketchabilities.

This layout covers 2 different challenges.  The sketch is from Creative Scrappers, and the challenge at Frosted Designs is to use buttons and eyelets.

Work Hard, Play Harder

This layout is for 2 challenges.  The sketch is from Punky Scraps, and the challenge at True XOXO Girls is messy.

This is Memphis and his best friend (who recently moved to another school).  I want to be sure to document all the fun they had together during their 3 years of being the only boys in their class.  Now Memphis is the only boy.  I hope this is a friendship he remembers, and these layouts help him do that.  I still remember my first BFF from school.

Plus I wanted to document how they tore up the court in basketball together last year.  They made an awesome team.

Imagine and Favorite Things

I got behind on the One Year Art Journal prompts, so this week I made it a goal to get caught up.

The first one I missed was "imagine".  When I got to thinking, I realized a lot of my goals right now have to do with fitness.  Of course I have other goals during my year of revival (my one word), but there are a lot of fitness related ones on my list.  This year a coworker and I have made a running list for races that ends with a half marathon in November.  Then I would like to run a full marathon by next June (when I turn 30).  I would also like to do the Warrior Dash, which will take a lot of physical strength as well as endurance.  Plus, I want to be an overall better role model for my children on how to be healthy.

I wanted to document this, and so I made my "imagine" page about fitness.  I wrote "Imagine what fit feels like, then get there." The background is watercolors, and I found the image on Pintrest.

The next prompt was "favorite things".  I put my a random list of favorite things and a list of favorite places.  I used bright colors and glitter on my page, because those are some of my favorite things.  On the left side I wrote more random favorites on the page, and on the right side I wrote about how my life in general is one of my favorite things.
I had to include this pic to show you my cute little helper this morning.  She isn't feeling the best, so when the other two chose to go play at Grandma and Papa's she decided to stay home.  She has been right beside me all morning.
I am enjoying art journaling, because my scrapbook pages are generally about my kids.  This will give them something to look back on to see who mom was (likes, goals, fears, accomplishments, and just general info about me).

Growing up Together

I played along for the first time with Sketches in Thyme this week.
It was a great sketch.
I love this picture I took of the kids after they got stick on mustaches out of a quarter machine.
This page will be the first page of my 2011 album.
The layout went together really quickly, maybe 30 minutes tops.

You can't see the title well because I had to use the flash.  It says GROWING UP TOGETHER.  I love the title.  I think it is so awesome that these three have such a special bond.  Sure they have days that they are at each others throats, but for the most part they are best friends.  I love listening to them as they are making memories together, especially when they think no one is around to hear them.

Go over and check out Sketches in Thyme.

Lincoln Logs

The current challenge at Child's Play Challenges is Lincoln Logs.  When I saw this I thought it would be a great time to start scrapping the Elf on the Shelf pictures from this year.
This was our first year for Elf on the Shelf.  Ours ended up getting named Lumberjack, due to the fact that he when he first arrived he was hiding in our Christmas tree.

One day he was found playing with the kids Lincoln Logs they had received from one of my coworkers.  He had built this nice little house.
I found a vintage picture of a Lincoln Logs container, and thought it would go well on my page.

At the bottom I added a little house made out of brown paper strips, with the hopes of getting the effect of a Lincoln Log house.

Go check out what the other Design Team members and participants have done with this fun challenge.
